Stones and Mirros
In 1893, as Abdul Rahman Khan’s forces carried out mass killings of the Hazara people, a group of forty young Hazara girls chose resistance over submission and slavery. Among them was Shirin, a courageous commander whose leadership and spirit became legend.
Though still young, Shirin and her companions fought fiercely, refusing to surrender even as their strength waned. When they could no longer hold their ground, they retreated higher and higher into the mountains, seeking refuge among the towering cliffs.
As Abdul Rahman’s troops closed in, the girls hurled stones from the rocky heights at the advancing soldiers, even as enemy fire rained down upon them. The battle raged until dusk, the mountain echoing with their cries of defiance.
Stones and Mirrors tells the story of this legendary stand, which gave rise to the name Koh-e-Chel Dokhtaran - The Mountain of Forty Girls - a lasting tribute to their courage.
