The Scarecrow

Provide a short description of the gallery, highlighting key things.

The Scarecrow is a performance where Afghan and Swedish storytelling traditions meet. The ensemble’s experience in mime, clowning, folk music, and storytelling will be vital elements of the production. This will be expressed through a playful narrative brought to life with music, dance, and puppetry—a form of storytelling that children can easily engage with.

The performance explores, from a child’s perspective, many fundamentally serious themes. It addresses issues related to the challenges faced by both refugees and the countries that receive them, focusing on coexistence, social integration, and mutual understanding. These themes are illustrated through the relationship between the scarecrow/bird queen, the birds, and humans.

The overarching question of the production is: What responsibility do we bear as fellow human beings, and what choices can we make to better understand and help one another? What brings us together as people? How can we appreciate differences and find a sense of community?
